Apalachee Bay to St. George Sound

Apalachee Bay

Big Bend Fishing L.L.C. specializes in fishing the shallow inshore, near-shore waters of pristine Apalachee Bay and its tributaries that border “The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge”. The bay is a unique area with many miles of undisturbed coastline offering a wide variety of fishing opportunities. Charters on Apalachee Bay leave from Shields Marina in historic St. Marks Fl. located on the St. Marks River  just a few miles from the Gulf, and only thirty minutes south of Tallahassee, Florida's State Capital.

The species we target on Apalachee Bay are sea trout, redfish, cobia, tarpon, spanish mackerel and shark, though we do fish for and catch other species at different times. We fish with only quality light saltwater fishing tackle using the latest in techniques. Saltwater fly fishing opportunities are available.

Apalachee Bay's diversity, and the areas we fish range from lush turtle grass flats dotted with sand depressions and lime rock, to oyster bars, creek mouths, shorelines, and salt marshes. This bay is truly a worthwhile place to experience a day of fishing and enjoy the ecological diversity of the area.

St. George Sound

St. George Sound is located in eastern Franklin County Fl. to the east of Apalachicola Bay, and provides some of the best inshore opportunities for shallow water sight fishing along the coast of North Florida. Our charters in this area leave from Lanark Village located just a few miles east of Carrabelle Fl. on U.S. Hwy. 98.

The species we target on St. George Sound are the same as Apalachee Bay with the addition of pompano and tripletail. However, tarpon are one of our main targets during June and July.
Fishing in St. George Sound is done on gin-clear waters covering  white sand-flats spotted with patches of turtle grass. The pristine flats, shallow sand reefs and barrier islands of the area provide the setting for a light-tackle fishing experience that will not soon be forgotten.
